Case study summary by MMU

Community Project

Place-based Circular Society Innovations across Greater Manchester, London, Turku, Utrecht and Chicago.

In 2025 Manchester Metroplitan University conducted an assessment of what we do at CERA Cycloan with the view of writing a comprehensive case study in connection with an International programme place based circular society innovations. We now have the case study summary which I would like to share with you all as we are very proud of the outcome and having the invite to be part of an international study headed up by Dr Sarah Walker & Dr Paul O’Hare Read the case study summary here…. The full case study is expected to be released by 2027 which will be in connection with the wider international research program Place based circular society innovations. The aim of the MMU £1.1m 3-year UKRI ESRC funded research is to explore circular projects and organisations that purposefully aim to be socially equitable, just and inclusive, ecologically regenerative and economically resilient. We call these circular society innovations, or CSI for short.

Circular projects and organisations are always social in nature. They involve people, impact society, and are realised through social relations and processes. And yet, the social dimensions of circular initiatives remain poorly understood and vaguely defined. For a wider understanding of CSI visit the following link…. mmu.ac.uk/placebasedcsi
